Cluster Beans Patoli


Cluster beans :1/4 kg

Asafoetida: a pinch

Red chillies :4

Jeera : 1 tablespoon

Chana dal : 4 tablespoons

Salt : as required

For Seasoning :

Urad dal: 1 tablespoon

Jeera : 1/4 tablespoon

Mustard seeds : 1/4 tablespoon

Asafoetida : a pinch

Curry leaves : handful

Onion :1( cut to small pieces)

Oil:2 tablespoons 


1. Soak Chanadal for 2-3 hours.

2.Cut Cluster beans to small pieces and pressure cook them.

3.Take a mixture grinder , add chana dal,jeera,red chillies,asafoetida,salt and grind it to a paste.
4.Take the ground paste and add it to idli plates as you do it for idlis.Once they are cooked take the idlis and let them dry completely .

5. Once the chana dal idlis are dried completely,mash them to small pieces.

6.Take the cooked beans and keep them aside.Make sure that beans do not have any water.

7.Take a kadai,add oil.Once the oil is heated add urad dal,mustard seeds,jeera,curry leaves,onions and then asafoetida.

8.Once the onions are fried add the mashed mixture and then the cooked cluster beans.At this step add some salt for beans alone as you have already added for the chanadal mixture.

9.Wait for 5 minutes to get all the ingredients mix well and serve hot hot patoli😋😋😋.
*****Patoli goes well with Ullipaya (onion) pulusu.******

Recipe for Ullipaya (Onion) pulusu:

Onions :2

Oil :2 tablespoons

Redchillies :2

Fenugreek seeds :7 -8

Jeera: 1/4 tablespoon 

Mustard seeds:1/4 tablespoon 

Tamarind : a small lemon sized

Salt : as required 

Green chillies :3(cut verticallyto 2 pieces each)

Jaggery : 1/2 tablespoon

Curry leaves:  handful

Asafoetida : a pinch

Turmeric powder: a pinch

Water : 2 glasses


1. Cut  Onions vertically.

2.Soak tamarind and keep it aside.

3.Take a kadai,add oil.As the oil heats add redchillies,fenugreek seeds,jeera,mustard seeds,asafoetida,curry leaves and then the Onion.

4.Now add salt to the above ingredients and fry till the onions become transparent.

5.Take the pulp from tamarind and add it to the above ingredients.

6.Now add 2 glasses of water,turmeric powder,greenchillies and jaggery.

7.Wait till this is cooked and serve this yummy yummy dish.

****Add more jaggery if you want more sweetness.****
